SECA-DM (Severe Earthquake Consequence Assessment – Discrete Modeling Method) is a rapid and parsimonious method for estimating human and physical consequences of severe earthquakes by proportionally transferring observed effects from one or more comparable historical earthquakes to a study city.
SECA-DM transfers observed consequences from historical earthquakes to a study city, adjusting for population, physical inventory and magnitude.
Select comparable historical earthquakes, collect population/building/dwelling data and confirmed consequences, define the study city, apply population or inventory scaling, and apply magnitude adjustment when required.
